Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music not only brought attention back to the genre, but also to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish generally, and four songs in the year 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 songs mainly in Spanish reached the top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017 and soon after famous artists started working with reggaeton artists. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) as well as Madonna was a part of Medellin with Maluma (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton stars were complaining about the genre's direction toward the mainstream, but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro, sought to keep reggaeton evolving. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted procedure.
